To sad the devs make this part very anoying by clicking through 3 screens only to reload the autosave. Besides that the game is nice, but its kinda short, for a small price its OK if you like this kind of games and want some challenge.. As a long time fan of the series I got a shot at the new incarnation in Fear Effect franchise.The game is different from their predecessors, this time it is an isometric adventure/shooter.The graphics is quite good, the game succeeded in taking the original style and improved it to the new age of gaming. Sound is in pair with graphics with nice sountrack and good sound effects.Overall I recommend to give it a try, not only for fans of original Fear Effect, but the younger audience too.. I wanted to love this game. I really really did. The second I heard it was coming to Steam I had the date in my diary, eager to play it. I didn't even mind the game style had changed from the original two games; it was Fear Effect, and that made me happy. Unfortunately it's a game riddled with issues. I've onlyplayed for 4 hours and already the flaws are glaringly obvious. The isometric viewpoint is fixed, which wouldn't be an issue so much if the level design was clear, meaning half the time it's trial and error as to what is a walkway or door. I found myself backtracking and searching areas repeatedly just to work out where the game wanted me to go. The AI is very basic, with enemies just standing around discovered bodies, staring into space until returning to their fixed patrol routes as if nothing had happened. I tried the tactical mode only to have my allies get stuck on walls or doorframes until I took manual control again, which made the option cumbersome and far easier to solo most levels. And some of the dialogue comes as non sequiturs. The animated sequences between levels are pretty though, capturing the style of the original games with their two tone cell shaded styles. And the puzzles are pretty fun, involving observational skills rather than find one clue and move on. There's a great sense of accomplishment of getting things right first time. Unfortunately when compared to current isometric stealth games, this one falls terribly short. In fact, I'm not sure it reaches a great standard amongst any stealth / tactical games out there. If this wasn't Fear Effect, I suspect it would go largely ignored. But goddamn I wanted it to be good. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't written this review in the hope it will get an update to fix it, because it's clear the creators are as big a fan of the series as those who bought the game.. Kickstarter backer. very disappointed with this game. * Horrible controls, from late 1990's.* No mouse support in the game. You can't even point and click to steer your character to a position.* No native support for Xbox controller, controller icons are PS4 only.* Launched the game, got greeted with Press Start. I pressed start on active powered Xbox controller, nothing. Then pressed every key on keyboard, NOTHING happened. Pulled up Task manager and killed task.* Controls: Although my default controller in Windows was XBOX, it doesn;t seem to be recognised or supported. Steam Big Bicture was required enable PS4 controller 'help'. Restarted in Steam Big Picture, did PS4 controller seettings, launched the game and was then able to start 'Press any key'. Only to find that one can't interact using mouse. Avoid Fear Effect Seedna and buy Invisble Inc (also isometric) has mouse support, frequently on sale with Steeam Workshop support. * PS4 workaround found after trawling forums. This is a HUGE mistake/oveersight by developers. * Not optimised ! 23 fps on Ryzen 1600X w/32Gb Ram, Radeon RX 480 + SSD's. For a game with static visuals this is terrible. Other games I own runs at least 30 fps in 'high' with the same rig.* No tutorial or simple introduction mission. No obvious indication on what to do. * Non exiting user interface. No on screen prompts for map or any other indication of controls.* No icons on doors to indicate what to do. Within the first minute of the very first mission my character got in front of a (lockeed?) door, there was no icon to show 'press F to open door', forget about "You need XYZ to open the door". Nothing. I exited the game. Unlikely to return.* Posted the error in Steeam forums, a forum mod responded but no response freom developer.* Posted faults on Facebook page, got slapped as spam. * Did the devs ever bother to look at steam hardware statistques/enquette ? No !* Since release, no patches ! Not that I have noticed anyway.. I'm a big fan of the original games, I refused to believe this game was as bad as the reviews say, but...WOWThe original games (especially the first one) are cult classics, this mobile game (it is a mobile game) is like spitting in their name...and about the story, didnt see much, but the lesbian stuff written by a horny 14 years old was too much, even in 2001, the relationshipt between Hana and Rain in Fear Effect 2 was considered immature, but this...I mean, seriously, this game was released in 2018, and lesbians in video games are still portrayed like this?Anyway, hoping the remake of Fear Effect 1 is treated with more respect than this.. Liking what I've played so far! The game really shines through with its puzzles and the cutscenes there in when one fails LOL! Love seeing all the characters back and in their element. Only thing I can say that some people might be off put by is the decision for the next fear effect game to be made in isometric, turn based(optional), gameplay instead of the more RE/Dino Crisis look of its predecassors. For me however, so long as the game itself plays well is what truly matters in the end. Keyboard and Mouse controls are a bit weird at first but you begin to pick it up and it becomes second nature after a while. If not then use a xbox controller lying around instead if that suits you more! Looking to delve further into the game's story but from what I've experienced so far? I am happy to have backed this game.
